Montana taxpayers deserve transparency and accountability in their property taxes.
Montanans continue to see drastic increases in their property tax assessments, which leads to unfair and arbitrary increases to their property taxes.
Local business owners and many private residences are seeing huge increases on their estimated market value (the measure that Montana bases their property taxes on). One business is facing a 461 percent increase, creating a huge increase to his property taxes.
It’s not just businesses that are going on the hook for huge “fair” market value increases. One Montanan on fixed income told us she is now facing a $60,000 increase in the supposed value of her home supposed after only 2 years’ time. She doesn’t plan on moving anytime soon, and she hasn’t made anymore money now then 2 years ago, why is the state government punishing her this way?
Montanans deserve better. We need our government to be accountable and transparent on how the property tax assessment process works so hardworking businesses are not shut down by the arbitrary and unaccountable process of evaluating the market value of a given property.
Tell our lawmakers that our property tax process should be fair and transparent: it’s time for property tax reform in Big Sky Country!
