Sen. Pat Roberts and Sen. Jerry Moran recently signed on as co-sponsors of the FIRST STEP Act, criminal justice reform legislation the House passed by a convincing vote of 360-59.
Our senators’ support could help give the bill the momentum it needs to win Senate passage.
America needs policies that will reduce crime, keep people from reoffending, and ensure those who have paid their debt to society can reenter their communities successfully. The FIRST STEP Act addresses all these items and will save taxpayer dollars in the process.
This historic legislation is based on reforms that have been implemented successfully in several states, including Texas. After Texas passed criminal justice reform, its crime rate fell to levels not seen since the 1960s, and the state saved over $3 billion in the process.
Send Sens. Roberts and Moran a message today, thanking them for supporting the FIRST STEP Act. Support for the bill is support for a safer Kansas!
