Under current Florida law, telemedicine allows health care workers to interact with patients remotely and provide certain services. While telemedicine helps Floridians obtain easier access to health care services, there are still several limitations on how telemedicine can be practiced and in what manner.
Recently introduced legislation, House Bill 1477, supported by Rep. Lauren Melo, will bring two major reforms:
1) End technology restrictions on telehealth, such as preventing patients and providers from using text messaging where applicable or desired;
2) Authorize telepharmacy for prescription services, enabling health care workers to deliver pharmaceutical care through telecommunications.
We need to reduce harmful government barriers and support reforms that increase access to affordable health care, and Representative Melo has stepped up to lead the charge.
Thank Rep. Melo for increasing access to health care for Florida residents!
