Support legislation that funds students, not bureaucracy.
We are calling on the Tennessee General Assembly to support legislation that expands educational freedom and modernizes the public education funding system to a student-centered approach.
Overburdensome mandates have trickled down into our school systems. This is yet another reason why we urge communities to transform education away from the current top-down standardized model to a bottom-up system that enables every family to customize the education that best matches their values and priorities.
The current public education funding formula (BEP) has been in place since 1992. This overly complicated formula does not prioritize funding students, nor does it address the advancements in technology that would allow families more options to customize their child’s education. Only 53% of education dollars make it to the classroom - it’s clearly time for reforms that will be fund students, not bureaucracy.
Tell the legislature that parents need options. Students and families should be trusted to make decisions about their education. They should have agency over what, where, and how they learn. All families should be empowered with the funding to pursue the best education for their children. Support educational freedom legislation this session!
