Too often, those in the justice system are stuck in a cycle of recidivism that keeps them from re-entering society as healthy, successful citizens. Difficulty finding work and struggles with addiction make life harder for those returning citizens who want a chance at redemption.
Mississippi needs to work with the justice system through evidence-based programs to prepare these individuals for successful lives.
Current proposed legislation would make commonsense reforms to the justice system, such as expanding eligibility for problem-solving courts, creating new paths for formerly incarcerated individuals to put convictions behind them, and focusing taxpayer resources on the programs and individuals that need them most.
Mississippians deserve a second chance at living successful lives. Tell your legislator to support the HB 1352, The Criminal Justice Reform Act, and SB 2791!
