State lawmakers in Utah released a 182-page tax bill. But instead of giving the public time to comment on it, lawmakers want to vote on the bill next month in a special session.
Not only is the bill huge, but it’s also complex and confusing. Buried in the legislation are multiple tax hikes that would make everyday products such as gas and groceries more expensive.
Holding a special session to rush through legislation of this importance is a bad idea. A huge tax bill should adhere to the normal legislative process.
A task force is holding a public hearing to discuss the bill and a potential special session. Now is the time to make sure the task force hears from you. Urge these lawmakers to wait until next session to tackle the bill and give it the careful review it deserves.
