Kane County residents already pay some of the highest state and local taxes in the nation and raising taxes further will penalize residents and hurt the local economy.
According to WalletHub.com, Illinois had the highest total state and local tax rates on a median U.S. household, at 15.1%, a rate that’s nearly 40% higher than the national average.

Illinoisans already have the 2nd highest average gasoline taxes in the nation at 59.56 cents per gallon and Kane County is proposing adding an additional 2 cents per gallon on top of it.

While Illinois already has the 2nd highest property tax rate in the nation, a 2.16% average effective rate, residents in Kane County pay significantly more than the Illinois average rate of 2.66%.
