Say No to Food and Beverage Tax Hike!

Some of our city leaders have suggested we double the food and beverage tax in order to continually invest in downtown projects – forcing burdensome tax hikes on the backs of hard-working taxpayers.

This is the worst time to raise taxes, especially when businesses and families are struggling to make ends meet. Increasing this regressive tax is both irresponsible and cruel to our local small businesses.

Raising taxes won’t help attract new business and revitalize downtown. These types of taxes either hurt small businesses that already operate on such razor-thin margins or make everyday goods more expensive for lower- and middle-income consumers. 

To create the type of pro-growth, business-friendly environment that our community needs, the City Council should lower taxes and let folks keep more of their hard-earned money that they can in turn reinvest in our communities. 

Please continue to support a resolution denouncing the doubling of the food and beverage tax. I am looking to you to protect taxpayers and our small businesses from this harmful tax increase.
