For years, our state legislature has dipped into savings to cover annual budget shortfalls.
Once upon a time, our main savings account was $10 billion strong. It has now dwindled to $1.7 billion, all because our leaders in Juneau opted to kick the can down the road rather than spend responsibly.
Thankfully, Gov. Mike Dunleavy is ready to do something about our spending problems.
The governor has rolled out a budget with common sense at its core — we can’t spend more than what we have. But the current state spending cap we have is ineffective. We need a tighter spending cap that will provide meaningful cuts to the budget and help legislators prioritize spending.
Help show support for a tighter constitutional spending cap. Email the House State Affairs Committee Co-Chairs Rep. Kreiss-Tomkins and Rep. Fields, and tell them to advance HJR 7, the constitutional spending cap!
