Give hard-working Missourians a tax break

Last year, our legislature passed the largest tax increase in state history – a 12.5 cent per gallon gas tax hike.

It couldn’t have come at a worse time. Missourians are being crushed by inflation caused by mountains of red tape and years of reckless spending by both parties. Skyrocketing gas prices, grocery bills, and rent and housing prices are causing a serious strain on household budgets.

At a time like this, Missourians should be able to keep more of their tax dollars.

HB 3021 would provide a simple tax credit of $500 for individuals/$1000 for joint filers *or* taxes due (whichever is less) for Missouri residents who filed taxes in 2021.

This legislation would return money back to those who earned it. The Missouri House has already taken action to pass it. Now, our Senators must do the same.

However, our lawmakers can – and should – do more than a one-time tax cut. The legislature should follow the example of our neighboring states and permanently cut taxes to provide Missouri families with the relief Washington is unwilling to consider.

I urge you to support HB 3021 and any effort that would permanently reduce taxes on hard-working Missourians.
