Give Missouri students the opportunity to learn everywhere

I am writing to you about the importance of providing extended learning opportunities for Missouri students.

While the learning that takes place inside the traditional classroom is important, we know that students can learn through a diversity of approaches and from a variety of experiences.

Providing opportunities for education outside the classroom gives students the chance to discover and develop their aptitudes in new ways.

The Extended Learning Opportunities Act (SB 1051/HB 1856) gives students the ability to earn credit for approved educational courses and programs outside the classroom.

Extended learning programs can be sponsored by non-profits, community organizations, and local businesses. A community theater, for example, can offer an opportunity for students to receive an arts credit toward graduation.

I encourage you to support this legislation that will give Missouri’s children more opportunities to earn credit for the learning outside the classroom.
