Montana’s public universities are at their best when they foster open inquiry and free exchange of ideas.
That’s why our lawmakers — who support free expression on our campuses in bipartisan fashion — should craft legislation to protect these constitutional rights.
Such legislation should, among other things:
- Eliminate restrictive “free speech zones.”
- Protect the right of all people to engage in peaceful expression.
- Empower students to understand their free speech rights.
- Codify existing First Amendment protections in state law.
Tell lawmakers to support greater protections for free expression on Montana’s public university campuses.
