Currently, there are very few avenues to hold accountable government agencies who have violated Granite Staters’ constitutional rights.
A big reason for this is the doctrine of Qualified Immunity. This is a court-created doctrine that gives immunity to government officials from possible suit in a wide range of issues, essentially making them immune to accountability for violating someone’s civil rights from the citizenry.
House Bill (HB) 111 would bring much-needed accountability to government agencies and would help to create more accountability and trust between law enforcement and their communities.
HB 111 will incentivize government entities to ensure their policies and training do not create the potential for a violation of individual rights. Bad actors, no matter who they are or who they work for, should be held to the same standard as everyone else.
Urge your lawmakers to bring accountability to all government officials and support HB 111!
