Did you know that state senators have the ability to be “Present Not Voting (PNV)” on legislation? Many senators vote “present not voting” rather than voting for or against a bill, on the record.
On Friday, March 25, 2022, the Legislature debated LB 825. LB 825 had an amendment AM2514 proposed to it. AM2514 would have provided income tax relief, corporate income tax relief, it would have secured property tax relief, and phased out the social security tax all while protecting the financial security of the state. Due to the excessive taxation at every level of government in Nebraska, it is increasingly more difficult for folks to get ahead.
It is unfortunate that 13 state senators, individuals elected to represent their districts and the state, chose to be present not voting. As a result, monumental tax relief for Nebraskans died because they lacked one vote (cloture) to end the filibuster.
All Nebraskans deserve a healthy, diverse economy and low tax rates. Nebraskans also deserve lawmakers who take a stand and let us know exactly where they are on the issues. Let them know how disappointed you are that they didn’t vote “Yes” or “No”.
Let senators know that you expect them to vote and are disappointed they didn’t vote for cloture on LB 825!
