Now is not the time to burden New Jerseyans
Tell the New Jersey State Treasurer not to raise the gas tax on hard-working New Jerseyans!
I am writing to you in opposition to a gas tax increase that will affect New Jerseyans at a time when we can least afford it. In the current economic climate we cannot afford to burden the residents or businesses of New Jersey more than they already are. Only four short years ago New Jersey nearly doubled its gasoline sales tax, and have raised it even more since then.
The unemployment rate and the number of businesses closing will have long term consequences on our economy and raising the gas tax will further burden them.
If New Jersey is to raise the gas tax at this time it would truly show the lack of empathy our state government has toward its residents.
I ask that you reject raising the gas tax yet again and allow our state to recover as quickly as possible from these difficult economic times.
