Mayor Cooper is considering a 32% property tax increase to make up for lost revenue due to COVID-19.
However, this is the wrong approach to helping Nashvillians get through this public health crisis. Unemployment claims in Tennessee increased by an astonishing 92,000 in the last two weeks, with over 30,000 coming from the Nashville area. With so many people in the Nashville area out of work, a property tax increase will only make their situation worse.
Tell your lawmaker now is not the time for harmful tax increases and instead ensure our local government is identifying and eliminating areas in the budget that are not essential.
