Corporate welfare is rearing its head again as Nashville is closing in on a $250 million taxpayer handout to build a new major league soccer stadium.
Proponents tout the supposed economic benefits the deal will bring from this growing sport. Yet, no matter what sport stadium it is, the economic costs far outweigh the benefits. These taxpayer-funded stadiums are repeatedly found to be wasteful and hurt taxpayers who are trying to make ends meet.
Mayor Cooper’s been stalling on this deal. Let him know you want him to go one step further and leave this deal on the table. Your taxpayer dollars should be spent on essential public services, not expensive gifts to large corporations.
