The North Carolina General Assembly is considering legislation to let North Carolina taxpayers protect themselves from future tax hikes.
If passed by the General Assembly, Senate Bill 75 will go before voters this November so they can amend the state constitution to cap the maximum income tax rate at 5.5 percent. The current rate of 5.49 percent just became law in 2017. This constitutional amendment would prevent the governor and legislature from raising the income tax above 5.5 percent.
North Carolina is a better state because of the tax and budget reforms passed over the last few years. Families are keeping more money in their pocket, businesses are growing and hiring, and thousands of people are moving to our great state. SB 75 will empower voters to decide the top tax rate and protect themselves from future attempts to reverse our state’s success.
Let’s keep our state moving forward. Urge your lawmakers to pass SB 75 and let voters protect themselves from future tax hikes.
