Montana rules are broken in such a way that, if homeowners in the state fail to pay off their property taxes in three years, they could lose their homes and all their equity. This means people could lose their entire life savings.
Senate Bill 253 would reform several unjust elements of the property tax system so that it’s fair not only to the struggling property-owner, but to the state and the lien-holder as well.
Among other reforms, the bill would:
· Help ensure the delinquent taxpayer can pay off the taxes at the lowest interest rate available.
· Protect the delinquent taxpayer’s equity.
