South Carolina has a history of doling out hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to finance huge projects that only benefit a select few.
Now, the South Carolina Department of Commerce wants to borrow taxpayer dollars to pay for a loan taken out for a railway project. This project has the right intentions, but the devil is in the details and we should not repeat history.
Recently introduced legislation, S.J.R 0491, would authorize the issuance of state economic development bonds using hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars.
For years, South Carolina lawmakers have allowed tax dollars to continue to be mismanaged. This is a trend that cannot continue.
Our taxpayers shouldn’t keep sending their tax dollars to the South Carolina Department of Commerce to be mismanaged.
Urge your lawmakers to stand up for taxpayers and against corporate handouts by voting NO on S.J.R. 0491!
