Collier County commissioners are imposing a “stormwater utility fee” on county residents to pay for post-storm maintenance.
A stormwater utility fee is just a fancy way of saying taxes will increase. Residents are already getting notices that their annual tax bills will be far bigger than expected, some increasing as much as 30 percent! What’s worse, commissioners were plotting this tax increase in October, November and December of last year – the months following Hurricane Irma.
Collier County should live within its means rather than impose fees on taxpayers. The county has enough funds to deal with storm maintenance without putting that burden on residents.
The commissioners will meet on Sept. 6 to discuss the budget. Contact them now to tell them we don’t need any more tax increases in our county.
