Just last year, Louisianans rose up to say no to a gas tax increase. But a special interest coalition is trying again.
This coalition, led by lobbyists for the asphalt industry, has formed to call for increasing the Louisiana gas tax.
The same people benefiting from government contracts want you to send the government more money, so they can have more.
Louisianans pay enough at the pump as it is. If lawmakers want to update our roads, they should do so with the money they already have in the state budget rather than put a heavier burden on taxpayers. After all, Louisiana is projected to have a $300 million surplus.
