There’s a lot wrong with Senator Bernie Sanders' infrastructure plan, but perhaps the worst part is the attack on American workers (or worker freedom), especially independent contractors.
Here are three of the worst aspects of this proposal:
- It implements the PRO Act, which would strip independent contractors of the flexibility to do their jobs on their terms.
- The PRO Act would also overturn or ban right-to-work laws throughout the country, which prevent workers from being fired if they choose not to join a union or pay fees to a union.
- It requires all infrastructure projects be handled by union workers, essentially allowing the government to penalize independent contractors and non-union firms.
- It requires costly “prevailing wage” rules, which would drive up the cost of infrastructure projects at taxpayer expense.
We need an infrastructure bill that is targeted at the vital needs of our bridges, roads and highways. We don’t need a wish list of special interest handouts.
