Support Increased Taxpayer Protections

I urge you to vote YES on HB 22-1059, a two-thirds voting requirement for bills with fees. 

This bill would create a requirement that any bill that imposes a new fee, authorizes the imposition of a new fee, increases an existing fee, or authorizes the increase of an existing fee be approved by a two-thirds vote of all members elected to each house of the general assembly to become law.

Taxes aren’t the only way our state generates revenue, we also have hosts of fees, and new fees being discussed seemingly every day. Like taxes, they come from the same source – the hard-working people of Colorado. 

It shouldn’t be easy to increase fee upon fee, and there should be a requirement for a supermajority of the legislature to approve a fee increase. Coloradans have time and again supported increased taxpayer protections and this bill keeps true to that. 

It is for these reasons I respectfully ask you to vote YES on HB 22-1059.
