It’s no secret that Nebraska suffers from high property taxes. A recent report from the Tax Foundation found Nebraska has the 10th highest property taxes in the country.
Nebraska’s families, business, farmers and ranchers deserve property tax relief. For too long, reasonable and responsible tax reform has been out of reach, restricting economic growth and opportunity for thousands of Nebraskans.
A new bill, LR8CA, would start a necessary process towards meaningful reform by capping property tax revenue increases to no more than three percent a year. This bill would put the focus on reining in spending rather than raising property, sales or other taxes to fund out-of-control local spending. an out-of-control budget.
Finally, LR8CA would give Nebraskans a stronger voice when it comes to taxes. The property tax cap would be put on the ballot for citizens to vote on, and local governments would need voters’ permission to override the cap.
This legislation is a sensible and responsible way to ensure Nebraska is a more fiscally sound state for our children and grandchildren. Tell your lawmaker to vote in favor of tax relief for Nebraskans!
