Incarcerating individuals is expensive. In New Jersey, it costs over $60,000 to incarcerate someone each year. Moreover, more than 95% of individuals will get out of prison and 75% return. It’s time to break that cycle and move our prisons to places of rehabilitation, so that people can come out and meaningfully contribute to society and their families.
S-2540/A-3979 — the Dignity for Incarcerated Primary Caretaker Parents Act — is a step in the right direction by reforming treatment in prison.
Right now, the bills have been referred Senate and Assembly Law and Public Safety committees and we are urging the respective Chairs to post the bills ASAP. Tell your official to support S-2540/A-3979 and vote them out of committee, today!
