Iowa lawmakers are considering SF 547, a bill that would create scholarships for special-needs students.
Specifically, the bill would create scholarships for special-needs students (students with individual education plans or 504 plans), as well as for some students denied open enrollment. Under the bill, a portion of the state school funding for that student would be deposited into a special account, which their parents could use for qualified educational expenses, including tuition at the school of their choice.
State Sens. Amy Sinclair, Jerry Behn, Jeff Edler, Craig Johnson, Tim Kraayenbrink, Ken Rozenboom, Annette Sweeney and Brad Zaun have been champions of this bill, helping it win committee approval.
