Education has the power to transform lives and communities. Let's provide all students in West Virginia the opportunity to discover, develop, and apply their unique talents. Every West Virginia parent knows their child is unique, and it is past time we have an education system that celebrates that reality.
Currently, educational opportunity is mostly available to those families who can afford private schools or can move closer to the school they think it is best for their children. But for families who can’t afford to pack up and leave their assigned school district, the status quo means their children are often stuck in schools that are unable to meet their children's unique needs.
Families should have access to a broad range of options beyond their assigned traditional public school. We can expand those options through policies such as education savings accounts(ESAs), public charter schools, and open enrollment. These policies can offer families the opportunity to give their children access to educational environments that are better suited to unlock the unique potential of their children.
Families can use ESAs to pay for tuition and fees, online learning programs, tutoring, career and technical education training, and other state approved customized learning services and materials.
Open enrollment and public charter schools allows families to select the public school that works best for their child’s unique needs.
It’s time to bring educational freedom to each and every child in West Virginia, regardless of their ZIP code or income level.
Tell your lawmaker that every child deserves access to an education that unleashes his or her potential!
