Newer research shows that witnesses who are incentivized to testify against a person accused of a crime are responsible for almost 20 percent of false guilty verdicts in the United States.
Our state lawmakers have the chance update Montana’s criminal justice system and address that, through Senate Bill 156.
· Would require the prosecution to inform the court of all information about a planned witness so the witness’ reliability can be assessed.
· Would allow for pre-trial reliability hearings. If the witness passes the test, the jury would be properly notified.
Montanans deserve a trustworthy criminal justice system that punishes only those guilty of committing crimes. Tell our state senators to vote “YES” on SB 156!
