Because Virginia legislators expanded Medicaid during the last legislative session, it’s now more important than ever to reform our commonwealth’s health care system. There are two ways to accomplish this that legislators should address during this upcoming session: expand and streamline telemedicine rules and eliminate certificates of need.
Telemedicine: Telemedicine involves providing clinical services to patients through the use of electronic communications and software. By leveraging these technologies, patients can get treatment without having to visit a doctor in person. This will result in lower costs for patients, especially in rural areas where many do not have easy access to primary care or specialist services.
Certificate-of-need laws: CON laws require medical practices to get a permission slip signed by the government if they want to build a new facility, expand an existing facility, offer new services or purchase new equipment.
Send officials a message and tell them to support health care innovation for all Virginians!
