In Texas, our approach to criminal justice has been an example to the rest of the country for many years. Our Legislature can continue to lead bail reform during this year’s session:
Bail Reform: Too many Texans who are locked up for non-violent, low-level offenses are stuck in jail for months because they can’t afford bail. On the other hand, there are violent and dangerous people who are released because they can afford it. Legislators should give judges more discretion to focus on a suspect’s risk assessment when holding someone in jail before trial.
Send legislators a message today, telling them to support these three “smart-on-crime” reforms and help ensure Texas continues to set a good example for the rest of the country.
