Louisianans already pay the second-highest sales tax in the nation and the proposed budget will more than double the state's gas tax.
Increasing the gas tax hurts hardworking Louisianans, especially the least well-off. A better solution lies in smarter prioritization of projects and more responsible spending allocations. The state should exercise financial responsibility and pull funds to fix our roads and bridges within the existing budget.
Not many of us would argue with the fact that we need to fix infrastructure in our state. But we should do it by prioritizing transportation and roads within existing revenues – not by additional costs for families and businesses.
