Expanding Medicaid under Obamacare vastly increased the amount of people in the program with mostly able-bodied, childless, working-age adults. The amount of people all vying for the same amount of resources (doctors, appointments, supplies, etc) increased. This essentially crowded out the people who need it most and are jeopardizing their health.
Thankfully, Senator Pete Kelly championed a SB 193 which passed the Senate and is moving Alaska toward a solution. This bill empowers Alaskans, especially low-income and able-bodied adults to pursue the dignity and self-worth that comes with work and makes sure that Medicaid can properly serve the people for whom it was originally intended.
Thank Sen. Kelly for helping fix the issues with our expanded medicaid system!
