Occupational licenses are supposed to help protect public
safety. Sadly, more often than not, occupational licenses simply serve as a
government permission slips that keep too many West Virginians from entering
the workforce. Far too often, West Virginia’s occupational licensing
schemes are designed to limit competition in a select field as opposed to
protect public health and safety.
Licenses often come with red tape that is burdensome for
people to cut through and fees that are too expensive.
These permission slips keep West Virginians who don't have the
means and resources to deal with licensure red tape from working jobs for which
they are otherwise qualified.
Thank you, Senator Maynard, for re-evaluating current
government licensing restrictions and working to cut the red tape.
