Our prisons are overflowing. We are incarcerating more people than we can afford, many of whom for longer than they need to be behind bars.
Senate Bill 620 will improve West Virginia’s parole system by ensuring that lower risk inmates who have taken steps to improve their lives by completing rehabilitative programming can have earlier access to parole consideration.
Giving those who no longer need to be behind bars to turn their lives around the opportunity to return to their communities earlier eases the burden on our prison system and our taxpayers, while giving more people the opportunity to reach their full potential.
