Telemedicine just has passed the Pennsylvania State Senate. The bill defines what telemedicine is, who can provide it, and provides for reimbursement to be determined by providers and insurers.
Additionally, PA Governor Wolf made several executive decisions to expand telemedicine due to the COVID-19 crisis:
- Allow health care professionals from out-of-state to treat Pennsylvania residents using telemedicine, when appropriate, and
- Allow licensed practitioners in other states to provide services to Pennsylvanians via the use of telemedicine, without obtaining a Pennsylvania license, for the duration of the emergency.
Telemedicine is an important advance in health care that is now more important that ever. Not only does it save time and money, but it also prevents the spread of disease – making doctors, patients, and their loved ones safer.
