The Cuyahoga County Council recently approved a proposal to grant Covia Holdings Corporation, a multinational mining and mineral company, a forgivable loan of $500,000 if they set up shop in Independence, Ohio. This is in addition to a $1.46 million "job creation credit" from the state of Ohio.
In short, this is corporate welfare. It takes money from hardworking Ohioan families to be pocketed by corporations looking for the highest bidder. There are many other ways to create jobs for Ohioans, but they should never come at the cost of taxing Ohioans for the benefit of special interests.
