The Joint Finance Committee recently approved a transportation budget that contains a proposal to create a “study” on the use of per-mile fees in Wisconsin.
Per-mile fees would require drivers to somehow report their mileage driven over the previous year to the government and then pay a fee for those miles. There is also no limit set on how much the fee could be increased, or on how much of your driving the government can track.
Giving one committee this much power would set a dangerous precedent for our democracy, our privacy and our pocketbooks.
Send lawmakers a message today, urging them to remove this proposal from the state budget!
