The Commonwealth of Virginia does not have collective bargaining, however, lawmakers passed legislation that haphazardly gives counties and local governments the ability to authorize forced union contracts for government employees in their jurisdictions.
This is BAD NEWS for government employees, taxpayers, and citizens of counties that choose to adopt collective bargaining ordinances.
What does collective bargaining do? It:
- Makes it harder to fire poor-performing employees.
- Makes it harder to give raises to high-performing employees.
- Means employees lose control of negotiating their own terms of employment.
- Leads to higher cost of government.
- Leads to unions dictating terms including the school calendar, discipline for employees, and which employees are laid off during budget cuts.
This is BAD NEWS for government employees, taxpayers, and citizens of counties that choose to adopt collective bargaining ordinances.
Urge lawmakers to say NO to collective bargaining!
