Telehealth is the use of electronic information and telecommunications to support long distance health care. It uses internet calling, video chat technology, and instant messaging to provide health care and health care training. It’s an industry-changing innovation that provides patients with new opportunities to receive health care at lower costs and more personal convenience. Expanding the use of telehealth is a no brainer!
Sadly, the Payment Parity provision HB 4003 would vastly reduce the impact of this innovation by artificially raising the price of telehealth beyond its true costs. The Big Medicine Industry has ganged up to co-opt this important legislation! The Payment Parity provision of the bill would force telehealth to be priced the same as an in-house visit! Even if a health care provider wanted to reduce their prices, the government would step in to force them to meet the standards set by the cronies. That isn’t right.
Haven’t West Virginians paid enough already because of back room health care deals? Enough is enough.
