Last year, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Mark Janus in Janus v. AFSCME, affirming that all government workers have the right to join or not join a union. This ruling empowered workers with the choice over where their money goes and who speaks for them.
Now it’s time for Pennsylvania to back the Supreme Court ruling.
HB 785 would require government workers be notified that union membership is no longer a condition of their employment. The measure would also repeal now-invalid laws that require government employees to pay union fees.
Proper notification of rights gives workers greater control over their paychecks and clear information on how they don’t have to fund an organization they do not wish to be a part of.
