A Better System Will Reduce Crime
To make Virginia communities safer, crime must be reduced. The only way to lower crime rates for the long-run is to reform the current criminal justice system.
From sentencing reform, to bail reform, to reforms that provide inmates with more educational opportunities — all reforms are aimed at reducing crime. Texas has shown reform works.
After implementing criminal justice reforms — including expanded drug courts and mental health programs — crime in Texas dropped to low levels not seen in decades. The state was able to close four prisons with plans to close four more and saved $3 billion in the process.
Virginia should follow suit.
