Find Another Way to Fix Our Roads and Bridges!
During his budget address in February, Governor Tim Walz proposed a 20 cent gas tax increase to fund infrastructure projects in Minnesota. That’s a 70% tax increase that would take Minnesota to the 4th highest gas tax in the nation. Not many of us would argue with the fact that we need to fix infrastructure in our state. But most everyone can agree that road improvements should not be funded through an increase in the gas tax.
Minnesotans already face one of the highest tax burdens in the country. Especially with the state budget projected to run another surplus this year (thanks to a booming national economy), now is NOT the time to be raising taxes even higher.
Our infrastructure needs should be addressed, but we should do it by prioritizing transportation within existing revenues – not by additional costs for families and businesses.
