Pledge to protect Florida workers and small businesses
Small businesses and Florida families are reeling from the economic impacts caused by COVID-19. Yet, they face an even steeper hill to recover with Amendment 2, which would raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.
Several major areas across California, New York, and Illinois have raised their minimum wage, but then some small businesses closed their doors and cut hours for workers. We should be helping grow the economy and help businesses succeed instead of imposing a one-size-fits-all wage that would hike the cost of doing business and make it even harder for businesses and workers to succeed.
Amendment 2 would force even more small businesses to close up shop and mean less jobs and less opportunity for Floridians.
A survey of Florida businesses by the Employment Policies Institute found that nearly half of businesses would reduce their employees’ hours and another study found Amendment 2 would cost the state at least 158,000 jobs.
We need to protect Florida workers and small businesses.
