Medicaid Expansion is Wrong for Kansas
Medicaid expansion could put Kansas families on the hook for more than $1 billion. Other states have learned the hard way that expanding Medicaid can lead to hundreds of millions of dollars in unexpected costs, taking resources away from other essential services like roads, schools and public safety.
Flooding Medicaid with 100,000 new enrollees will make it even harder for those who really need the program to access health care. Medicaid is already overloaded. Expanding it could take the program to the breaking point.
Thankfully, leaders across our state realize that Kansans need health care reform that lowers costs and ensures better care for everyone. Renee Slinkard, Charlotte Esau, Wendy Bingesser, Kathy Martin, and Renee Erickson committed not to expand Medicaid under Obamacare.
