Louisiana is a more unique place than you thought
Did you know that Louisiana is one of two states that require only 10 of 12 members of a jury to agree on a verdict to convict someone of a serious felony and send them to prison… for life.
That isn’t beyond a reasonable doubt.
These laws are outdated and unfair. They minimize justice and end up depriving Louisianans’ of their Constitutionally-protected rights.
To convict someone of a felony offense and send them to prison, our courts should have to convince a jury of our peers beyond a reasonable doubt—all of them.
If we really care about freedom and justice in Louisiana, we will support requiring unanimous jury decisions.
We have a chance this November to give our friends and neighbors the same rights enjoyed in almost every other state. Sign the petition to support requiring unanimous jury decisions, and vote “yes” on Constitutional Amendment 2 in November!
